Personal
I am a 19 year old college freshman from Charlottesville, VA. I am currently living and training with the Virginia Speedskating Assn. in Richmond, VA. I am a third generation speedskater; I started speedskating April 20, 2002. I was motivated to speedskate after watching the 2002 Winter Olympics. I watched Apolo Anton Ohno and I thought to myself that I want to do that! My mom, Suzanne A. Coffey, DC, was a member of the Mt. Prospect Speedskating Club; IL in the late 60’s was encouraged to skate by her father, John Coffey, who skated in Chicago, IL. She decided to start a club, a good way to exercise and spend time with me. We had a very difficult start in establishing the Blue Ridge Speedskating Club. So after a change in owners, we found it necessary to seek training initally with the Wheaton and then Virginia Speedskating. My goal is to win medals for the US at the World Cups and eventually the Olympics. This will be a great testimony to my hard work, my faith, my family, my friends and my coaches past, present and future. Our family has had some personal trials recently. Our home burnt down 8/8/05 and rebuilt 11/2/2006. As you can imagine, it has been a huge financial struggle reestablishing our finances and maintaining my training and our home. Sponsorships are essential for our athletes in obtaining our ultimate goals for our country, ourselves and our families. Between training, working part time and attending school, financial support is critically important. So if you are open to the possibility of sponsoring me and supporting my training, please contact , Suzanne A. Coffey, my mother at landonhatfield@earthlink.net
